Professional development of an educator depends not only on his or her
individual reading and self-education, but also on their communication
with like-minded people and co-workers, when it becomes possible to
exchange ideas and resources. Web 2.0 technologies like Twitter or Ning
are powerful tools for building such personal learning network (PLN).
The goal of the workshop is to demonstrate this process and to show the
advantages of having a PLN. It is planned to work with Twitter (a social
network) and an ELT-Russia community in Ning.

Abstract)
Blended learning vs Web-facilitated learning
Nowadays the term "blended learning" is being used with increased
frequency in both academic and corporate circles. It appears that it has
become the buzzword in web¬based teaching and learning in many fields of
higher education and in language learning as well. There is still quite
a bit of ambiguity about what is meant when the term is used. For the
purpose of this report, we make an attempt to work out the criteria to
define more narrowly what is blended learning in comparison to
web-facilitated one (by the percentage of ICTs used in the learning
process, their functions in it and by the role of the teacher).

The use of Wiki in teaching English at non-liguistic faculties
Integration of Web 2.0 tools in teaching of foreign languages is a
necessary aspect for the teachers who want to optimize process of
training and to make it more effective and motivated for students. A
wiki is one of the Web 2.0 tools which turn the process of teaching
languages into a vivid and creative process. Wiki’s potential in
pedagogical process is great enough. However, it is used more
effectively in creation of student's collective projects in groups, and
also the international projects with students from other countries. When
students participate in the process of creating a Wiki-site, reading,
writing and speaking skills of foreign language are developed.

The report is devoted to generalisation of experience of use of IT

experience is interesting because it is conducted as a system by all the
teachers of the chair in the mixed mode, in a combination of traditional
and information education technologies. Electronic training in teaching
linguistics is considered on the one hand as a spirit of the times and
on the other as a severe necessity of an information society. The mixed

Possible ways of using ICT to deal with political abbreviations (for
the Russian-German translation courses)
It is well known that there are some structural parellels in the Russian
and German political languagies. In spite of that fact, we face a number
of problems concerning translation of political terms. Sometimes it is
impossible to find an equivalent of a needed term. The reason for that
is mainly a lack of time. Nowadays there are so many new political terms
that
lexicographers don't have enough time to put them into dictionaries.
That's why the Internet is so important in this field. The given report
presents possible ways to use ICT during translation courses.

Two different approaches are distinguished in performing informatization

Reasons for prevailing in practice of technocratic approach based on
indentification of terms “informatization” and “computerization” are of
objective as well as of subjective character.
Informatization should be joined with processes of social

Educational ICT Communication in Teaching Foreign Languages
Methodological and communication possibilities of the computer
multimedia network language complex are characterized. The Complex is
developed on the basis of the author’s methodological recommendations.
The complex offers a number of forms of class and after-class
activities. The most significant characteristics are the following:
a) connection of a number of computers in a local network;
b) individual students’ work with chosen educational language training
programs or files of any format;
c) teacher’s individual work with each student;

engineer to plan web site construction and management around how and why
people use a particular web site in the first place.
This article primarily gives an insight in to various online brand
positioning elements and how they can be used by various organizations
worldwide to support their growth.

Abstract)
Key Human Competences and the Goals of FLT
Key human competences include communicative and information competence.
The notion of the communicative competence as purely linguistic was
extended with general competences.
The importance of the general competences is illustrated by a
cross-cultural project called “Global Understanding”.
The possibility of enhancing the didactic potential of the project due
to the creation of a resource site to extend socio-cultural knowledge is
emphasized.
The project itself and the supporting site can serve as an example of
using ICT in FLT, which promotes the development of multifaceted
information competence.

Abstract
One of the requirements for the students enrolled in the Global

we can recognize the importance of image as a way to understand and
interpret cultures, the proposal for including a photo analysis as an
assignment intend to serve as a tool to provide a better understanding
of the process of “being” an ethnographer, not just for understanding
other cultures but for the reflection or “awareness” of the student own
culture. This paper will show ESAN experience with this tool to train
students in developing skills of observation, critical assessment and
how to provoke discussion about cultural patterns.

However, it is used more
effectively in creation of student\'s collective projects in groups, and
also the international projects with students from other countries. When
students participate in the process of creating a Wiki-site, reading,
writing and speaking skills of foreign language are developed.

component for Macmillan?s new course Global.

The article reflects on the importance of online tutor’s understanding
of his vital role as well as acquisition of essential skills in the
context of foreign language learning. Despite our awareness of the clear
advantages of online learning, the usual problem persists: the
acceptance by the e-learner of the idea of e-training, how comfortable
he feels and how, in his own opinion, effective the learning is. The
four main types of tutor’s roles are pedagogical, motivational, mediator
and technical.
The essence of any language is communication, hence the pedagogical
objective of language e-learning is to provide necessary tools for
achieving this goal. From a commercial point of view the task is to
create an atmosphere where e-learners will continue to realize the
benefits of learning online, be able to see results and wish to carry on
improving their language skills through e-learning.
